Police have recovered 105 suspected stolen mobile phones, two laptops and assorted mobile phone accessories following a targeted operation against the illegal trade in electronic devices in Madogo Township, Garissa County.
The raid, conducted along Mums Street, was carried out after investigators received intelligence linking a business premises to the handling and sale of suspected stolen property.
Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) stormed the premises and recovered the electronic devices before arresting two suspects believed to be connected to the operation.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were taken into lawful custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
Authorities said detectives are now working to identify and trace the rightful owners of the recovered gadgets, urging members of the public who may have recently lost their mobile phones or laptops to cooperate with investigators.
The recovered items are expected to undergo verification to establish ownership and determine whether they are linked to reported theft cases from different parts of the country.
The operation forms part of the National Police Service’s ongoing crackdown on the trade in stolen electronic devices, a crime that authorities say fuels robberies, phone snatching and other forms of criminal activity.
Police have maintained that dismantling networks involved in the sale of stolen gadgets is key to reducing such offences and ensuring criminals do not profit from stolen property.
In a statement, the NPS reaffirmed its commitment to combating the handling of stolen goods and other forms of criminality through intelligence-led operations across the country.
Police also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency numbers 999 and 911. Investigations into the recovered electronics and the suspected network behind the illicit trade remain ongoing.
