Police Seize 250kg of Cannabis, Arrest Eight Suspects in Githurai Raid

Police have arrested eight suspects and recovered 250 kilogrammes of cannabis during a major anti-narcotics operation conducted in Githurai 44, Kasarani Sub-County, in what authorities have described as a significant blow to the area’s illegal drug trade.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the overnight operation was carried out after officers received actionable intelligence, supported by information from members of the public, regarding suspected narcotics activities at a residential property in Githurai 44.

Officers raided the premises and conducted a comprehensive search, leading to the recovery of a large quantity of Cannabis Sativa alongside materials believed to have been used in the packaging and processing of the drugs.

Among the items seized were 250 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, 1,800 rolling papers, a 25-kilogramme bag of white polythene packaging material, and a large metallic sieving mesh suspected to have been used in processing the narcotics before distribution.

Police said the eight suspects found at the premises were arrested and taken into custody for processing ahead of their arraignment in court. The recovered exhibits have since been secured and placed in the station’s exhibit store as investigations continue.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating within Nairobi and its surrounding areas.

Authorities have maintained that intelligence-led operations remain a key strategy in disrupting the supply and distribution of illegal narcotics.

The National Police Service commended the officers involved for their swift coordination and professionalism during the operation, noting that the success of the raid was made possible through cooperation between security agencies and members of the public.

Police also appealed to Kenyans to continue sharing information on suspected criminal activities, particularly those involving narcotics, emphasizing that public vigilance remains crucial in the fight against drug trafficking and other forms of crime.

Investigations are ongoing as detectives seek to establish the origin of the drugs and identify any additional individuals linked to the suspected trafficking network.
