The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified its crackdown on illicit alcohol and drug trafficking, arresting six suspects in separate operations conducted in Nairobi and Busia counties over the weekend.

In the first operation, officers from Kahawa West Police Station, acting on intelligence, raided an illegal brewing den in the Soweto area of Kahawa West on Sunday, July 12. The operation led to the seizure of 3,800 litres of Kangara and 60 litres of Chang’aa, dealing a significant blow to the illicit alcohol trade in the area.
Police also confiscated brewing equipment used in the production of the illegal liquor and arrested four suspects believed to have been operating the brewing den. The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
In a separate operation in Busia County on Saturday, July 11, police officers, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, arrested two suspected drug traffickers at the Climax Bus booking office within the Busia stage area.
A search of the suspects’ luggage uncovered eight packages containing 5.65 kilograms of cannabis sativa with an estimated street value of KSh169,500. The narcotics were seized as exhibits, while the two suspects were taken to Busia Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of their court appearance.
The two successful operations underscore the National Police Service’s continued efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in the manufacture and distribution of illicit brews and narcotic drugs across the country.
Police also commended members of the public for providing timely information that contributed to the Busia arrests, emphasizing that community cooperation remains crucial in the fight against crime.
