The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has successfully secured life sentences for two men convicted of sexually abusing four children in Changamwe and Jomvu sub-counties.

Resident Magistrate Hon. Green Odera handed down the maximum sentence to Darius Mboga, alias Kevo, 32, a barber shop operator at Msikiti-Noor area in Changamwe.
Mboga was found guilty on three counts of defilement contrary to Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the Sexual Offences Act, as well as three counts of committing an indecent act with a child under Section 11(1) of the same Act.
The court heard the harrowing details of how Mboga, between 2021 and May 11, 2022, repeatedly sodomised three boys aged 9, 12, and 16. He had taken in the minors after their mother’s death, posing as a good Samaritan, only to sexually abuse them.
The abuse came to light when a teacher noticed one of the boys walking abnormally and questioned him. The minor revealed about the repeated sexual abuse. Police were notified, and the boys were examined at Coast Provincial General Hospital, where medical reports confirmed sexual abuse.
Purity Musembi – the Principal Prosecution Counsel, presented six witnesses whose consistent testimonies, alongside medical evidence, proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In a separate case, 24-year-old boda boda rider Hassan Bakari Kombo was also sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling an 8-year-old girl. Kombo was convicted on the main count of defilement under Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act, with an alternative count of committing an indecent act.
The incident took place on December 7, 2024, around 2:00 a.m. at Mnazi Mmoja in Mikindani Location, Jomvu sub-county. The girl was left under Kombo’s care while her guardian went to work.
The minor later reported the ordeal to her mother, who alerted the police. Five prosecution witnesses and medical evidence confirmed the girl’s account, leading the court to dismiss Kombo’s claim that he had been framed.
Magistrate Odera emphasised that the prosecution had proved both cases beyond reasonable doubt. Both convicts were granted 14 days to file an appeal against their convictions and sentences.
The rulings underscore the ongoing efforts by the DPP and the judiciary to protect children from sexual violence and hold perpetrators accountable.
