The government has disbursed the outstanding marking allowances owed to examiners who participated in the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

In a statement issued on Thursday July 9, 2026, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had paid the remaining balances to the respective accounts of all examiners involved in the marking exercise.
The payments bring relief to thousands of examiners who had been awaiting the completion of their marking allowances.
“We are pleased to inform all examiners who participated in the marking of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination that the balance of their marking allowances has been disbursed to their respective accounts by the Kenya National Examinations Council,” Ogamba said.
The disbursement follows the release of KSh1.5 billion by the National Treasury on July 7, 2026, to facilitate the settlement of the pending payments.
Ogamba commended examiners and other contracted professionals for their dedication, patience and commitment to maintaining the quality and credibility of national assessments and examinations.
“We commend the examiners and other contracted professionals for their professionalism, patience and continued commitment to fostering quality and credibility in our national assessments and examinations,” the CS noted.
The release of the funds and ongoing payments are expected to calm concerns among teachers and improve relations between educators and KNEC ahead of the 2026 national examinations.
Meanwhile, KNEC has opened applications for assessors who will take part in the 2026 KCSE oral and practical examinations, with qualified secondary school teachers and college tutors required to submit their applications by July 15.
