“Officers from the National Police Service today, 8th July 2026, intercepted and arrested a high-profile suspect believed to be a major player in the illegal arms trade network,” NPS said.

“The suspect was apprehended at the Kanyonyo Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) while in transit to Nairobi. Following a targeted search of the vehicle, security officers recovered firearms and a large cache of ammunition.”

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect is believed to have been involved in the illegal sale, supply and distribution of firearms and ammunition across several regions.

The National Police Service said the arrest disrupted a criminal supply chain that was allegedly intended to provide weapons for unlawful activities within Nairobi and surrounding areas.

The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting detectives as investigations continue to identify other individuals believed to be part of the wider network, including possible suppliers and buyers.

Police said the suspect will be presented before court to face relevant charges once investigations are complete.

The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to combating illegal arms trafficking and enhancing security for Kenyans, residents and visitors.
