A routine journey aboard a Nairobi-bound bus ended dramatically after detectives intercepted the vehicle and arrested a passenger allegedly transporting heroin valued at approximately Sh1 million.

The operation was conducted by officers from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), who acted on intelligence reports indicating that narcotics were being transported along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi Highway. The detectives mounted a targeted operation at Taru, where they flagged down the bus and carried out a thorough search.
What initially appeared to be a routine passenger screening quickly turned into a significant drug bust. During the search, detectives focused on a passenger seated at Seat No. 29, who was later identified as 38-year-old Brian Tabu Owuor.
According to police, officers recovered a brown bag belonging to the suspect. A search of the bag revealed four sachets containing heroin weighing a total of 300 grammes. The narcotics are estimated to have a street value of approximately Sh1 million.
In addition to the suspected drugs, detectives recovered Sh95,000 in cash, which investigators believe may be proceeds of criminal activity. Both the heroin and the cash were seized and secured as exhibits to aid in the ongoing investigations.
The suspect was immediately apprehended and taken into police custody, where he is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court. Authorities have not yet disclosed the intended destination of the narcotics or whether the suspect was acting alone or as part of a wider trafficking network.
Police say investigations are continuing as detectives work to establish the source of the drugs and identify any possible accomplices linked to the suspected trafficking operation.
The latest seizure highlights the continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to do away with drug trafficking along major transport corridors, particularly the Mombasa-Nairobi route, which remains under close surveillance due to its strategic importance in the movement of goods and passengers across the country.
