The National Police Service (NPS), working with multi-agency partners, has intensified nationwide operations targeting the trafficking of narcotics and illicit brews, leading to multiple arrests and seizures across several counties in the past 24 hours.

According to police, intelligence-led operations and routine patrols were conducted in Kilifi, Busia, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga and Kiambu counties, resulting in the recovery of cannabis sativa and chang’aa, as well as the arrest of several suspects.
In Kilifi County’s Kaloleni Sub-County, undercover officers from Mariakani Police Station arrested a suspected drug peddler in the Makaburini area of Mariakani Town. The suspect was found in possession of 13-and-a-half large rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang).
In Busia County, officers manning a roadblock in the Suo area intercepted a Nairobi-bound public service vehicle, where a search uncovered a black bag containing three packages of suspected cannabis wrapped in yellow cellophane. One passenger was arrested.
In Nyandarua County, officers from Kinangop Police Station, acting on a tip-off, raided Sende Moto area in Engineer Township and arrested a suspect found with 54 rolls of cannabis sativa valued at an estimated street value of KSh 5,400. Officers also recovered KSh 450 suspected to be proceeds of crime.
In Kirinyaga County, a joint operation by Kagumo Police Station officers and National Government Administration Officers dismantled a suspected drug distribution ring in Kariko village, Mutira South Location. Three suspects were arrested, and 250 grams of cannabis sativa valued at about KSh 9,000 were recovered. A motorcycle used in the operation was also impounded.
In Kiambu County, officers from Githunguri Police Station arrested a suspect in Githunguri Township after intercepting 11 litres of chang’aa packed in nylon sachets at a local stage following a tip-off.
The suspects and exhibits are currently in police custody awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
The National Police Service commended members of the public for providing information that aided the operations, urging continued vigilance and cooperation in reporting illegal activities through emergency hotlines and the #FichuaKwaDCI platform.
The service reiterated that enforcement operations against the manufacture, distribution and consumption of illicit brews and narcotics will continue across the country.
