Three Arrested After Armed Gang Raid Chemelil Academy in Muhoroni

Police in Muhoroni Sub-County have arrested three suspects linked to a violent attack in which a gang stormed Chemelil Academy, vandalised property and injured staff members.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) the incident occurred on June 18, 2026, after officers received a distress call reporting an ongoing raid at the school.

Responding swiftly, police arrived at the scene and found around 20 men armed with crude weapons fleeing in different directions, with some escaping towards Achego while others disappeared into nearby sugarcane plantations.

According to police reports, the attackers had already caused extensive damage by the time officers arrived. The gang is said to have forced entry into the administration block and vandalised offices belonging to the Principal and Deputy Principal.

“Upon arrival, officers were confronted with a scene of devastation. The gang had wreaked havoc, smashing their way into the administration block and vandalising the offices of the Principal and Deputy Principal,” DCI said.

During the attack, staff members were assaulted, and the assailants reportedly stole 10 smartphones, cash, and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

In the aftermath, the injured staff were rushed to Nyang’oma Sub-County Hospital, where they are receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Following investigations and intelligence-led operations, police arrested three suspects identified as Bernard Ouma, Thomas Onyango Ouma, and Walter Owa, also known as Teddy Obul, at different locations within Chemelil.
