Detectives from Githurai have arrested a man who had been on the run following the fatal stabbing of his wife during a domestic dispute in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.

The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Charles Maina Karungae Kibue, was arrested in Kayole after detectives tracked him down using forensic leads, police said.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on June 14, 2026, at a shop owned by the victim, 47-year-old Elizabeth Wambui, in the Delta area of Mwihoko Township.
Police reports indicate that a domestic altercation broke out between the couple before Kibue allegedly stabbed Wambui in the chest using a spearhead. He is said to have fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Officers who responded to the incident found Wambui lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries. She was rushed to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body was later transferred to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
Crime scene investigators recovered a bloodstained spearhead believed to have been used in the attack. The weapon has since been secured as evidence.
Following the incident, detectives launched a manhunt for the suspect, who had gone into hiding.
Police said the suspect was eventually traced and arrested at a hideout in Nairobi’s Kayole area. He remains in custody and is undergoing processing pending his arraignment in court.
The arrest brings to an end days of pursuit by investigators who had appealed for information on the suspect’s whereabouts following the killing.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to addressing cases of domestic and gender-based violence, urging members of the public to seek peaceful means of resolving family disputes and to report threats or incidents of violence before they escalate.
Investigations into the motive behind the fatal confrontation remain ongoing as detectives prepare to present the suspect before court.
