An auditor attached to the North Rift Valley Development Water Agency has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of demanding and receiving a bribe from a contractor seeking a favourable audit outcome.

The suspect, identified as Michael Maleya Omondi, was apprehended following an operation conducted by EACC officers in Eldoret after a complaint was filed with the anti-graft agency.
According to investigators, the contractor reported that the auditor had allegedly requested money in exchange for influencing an ongoing audit exercise.
The complaint prompted the commission to launch investigations and set up a sting operation.
“Omondi was arrested after allegedly receiving Ksh.400,000 from the complainant,” EACC said.
Following the arrest, he was taken to the EACC North Rift Regional Office for processing and recording of statements as investigators continued gathering evidence related to the case.
The anti-corruption agency later released the suspect on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000 as investigations proceed.
In a statement, EACC indicated that inquiries into the matter are still ongoing and that further action will be determined once the investigation is concluded.
The outcome of the investigation is expected to determine whether criminal charges will be preferred against the suspect.
