KeNHA Announces 24-Hour Closure of Mombasa Road and Nairobi Expressway Sections

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a public notice advising motorists of major temporary traffic disruptions along the Mombasa Road (A8) corridor and the Nairobi Expressway this weekend.

According to the notice dated June 5, 2026, a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway between the Airtel Complex and General Motors (GM) will be completely closed for 24 hours.

KeNHA noted that the closure will run from 10:00 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to 10:00 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify the public that a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8), and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors will be closed,” the notice stated.

The authority explained that the works are intended to facilitate the installation of fabricated footbridge beams for the Airtel Footbridge across the Expressway carriageway.

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution and follow the proposed traffic management plan, which includes diverted routes. KeNHA emphasized the need for full cooperation with police officers and traffic marshals who will be on site to manage the flow of traffic.

Motorists travelling from Nairobi’s CBD towards Mombasa Road will be diverted at the Shell area onto Likoni Road, before joining Enterprise Road and reconnecting with the A8 Highway at General Motors towards Cabanas.

Drivers heading into the CBD via the Nairobi Expressway will be affected by a closure at the Cabanas section and will be redirected onto the Mombasa Road carriageway. They will then proceed towards the city centre under the direction of traffic marshals.
