Three suspects have been arrested and 13 pieces of elephant tusks recovered following a police operation in Marsabit County targeting wildlife trafficking.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers from Marsabit Police Station conducted the operation after receiving intelligence about suspected illegal possession of wildlife trophies in the Majengo area.
The officers raided a residential house where they arrested three suspects identified as Wario Ali Halo, Umuro Afani Duba and Alkano Elema Galgalo.
“In a well-coordinated operation, law enforcement officers from Marsabit Police Station have arrested three suspects and recovered 13 pieces of elephant tusks,” DCI said. “Acting on a concrete tip-off, the officers swarmed a residential house in the Majengo area.”
During a search of the premises, police recovered 13 pieces of elephant tusks concealed inside a green sack. Authorities believe the tusks are linked to illegal wildlife poaching activities.
The suspects were taken into custody and escorted to Marsabit Police Station, where they are being processed pending their arraignment in court.
The recovered tusks have been secured and will be used as exhibits in the case.
The DCI said the operation demonstrates its continued commitment to combating wildlife trafficking in collaboration with other government agencies and stakeholders.
Kenya has intensified efforts to curb the illegal wildlife trade, which remains a significant threat to endangered species, particularly elephants targeted for their ivory.
