Johana Tonui Named New GSU Commandant in Latest Police Reshuffle

The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a fresh round of senior leadership changes, with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja redeploying top officers to key positions within the service with immediate effect.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, June 10, the Inspector General said the deployments were made following recommendations by the National Police Service Board.

Under the changes, Mr. Johana Kiplangat Tonui, who has been serving at the Directorate of Operations within the Kenya Police Service (KPS), has been appointed the new Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU).

Mr. Fredrick Egesa Nyongesa, has been elevated from the General Service Unit to serve as the Deputy Commandant of the elite unit.

The reshuffle also saw Mr. Paul Maingo Mumo, move from the Directorate of Quality Assurance within the Kenya Police Service to take over as Director of the Internal Affairs Unit.

The National Police Service said the appointments take effect immediately as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership and enhance service delivery within the country’s security agencies.
