President William Samoei Ruto has on Friday June 5, made several key appointments and promotions within the military, aimed at strengthening the leadership of the Kenya Army, Air Force, and supporting institutions.
In an official statement from the Ministry of Defence, Major General John Maiso Nkoimo has been appointed as the new Deputy Commander of the Kenya Army, taking over from Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, who has proceeded on retirement.
Until his new appointment, Major General Nkoimo served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command.
In the Kenya Air Force, Brigadier Mohamud Salah Farah, who was previously the Base Commander at Laikipia Air Base, has been elevated to the position of Deputy Air Force Commander.
The President has also promoted Brigadier William Kamoiro to the rank of Major General and appointed him as the new General Officer Commanding Central Command.
Additionally, Brigadier Peter Kipketer Limo has been promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics at Defence Headquarters. He replaces Major General Edward Rugendo, who has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Defence Forces Welfare Services
Prior to his promotion, Major General Limo served as Managing Director at the same Welfare Services.
President Ruto further extended the tenure of Kenya Navy Commander, Major General Paul Owuor Otieno, by one year, following recommendations from the Defence Council chaired by Cabinet Secretary for Defence Soipan Tuya.
In the Kenya Army, Brigadier Francis Njoroge Kuria was promoted to Major General and appointed Director of Medical Services. Colonel Mark Joseph Awala rose to Brigadier and was named Chief of Operations at Kenya Army Headquarters.
Colonel Makonani Balata was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of Langata Garrison, while Colonel Asma Diramo Kofa became Brigadier and Chief of Provost at the Directorate of Oversight, Compliance and Accountability.
In the Kenya Air Force, Colonel Peter Karigh Kariuki was promoted to Brigadier and appointed College Secretary at the National Defence College. Colonel Benedetta Margaret Kikechi was promoted to Brigadier and assigned as Chief of Research and Development at the Defence National Security Industries.
Lieutenant Colonel Bernadette Awar Eyanae was promoted to Colonel and appointed Colonel Plans and Programs at the International Peace Support Training Centre.
