KeNHA Orders Removal of Structures Along Major Road Corridors

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a public notice directing owners and operators of roadside developments to clear all unauthorised structures along several major road corridors.

In the notice dated 27th May 2026, KeNHA reminded the public and roadside traders that any structures installed on road reserves without proper approval must be removed.

These include makeshift structures, permanent and semi-permanent buildings, billboards, advertisement signs, tree nursery beds, and other encroachments.

“The Authority hereby notifies the public and all roadside development operators and traders to remove all structures on the road reserve whose installation is not duly approved,” the KeNHA notice read in part.

According to the authority, the directive affects Chebarbar-Lessos-Nabkoi (B12), Mayoni-Bungoma (B139) and Chepsonoi-Kapsabet (B12) roads.

Operators have been given 30 days from the date of the notice to comply. KeNHA warned that failure to act by June 26, 2026 will result in the removal of the structures in line with Clause 49 of the Roads Act, 2007, with the costs to be borne by the owners or operators.

KeNHA said the notice applies to all encroachments on both the new and old alignments of the affected road reserves.

This latest move by KeNHA is part of ongoing efforts to protect road reserves and improve road safety and infrastructure development across the country. Road users and affected parties have been advised to contact the authority for any enquiries.
