Multi-agency security teams operating under Operation Maliza Uhalifu have recovered 24 head of stolen livestock following a swift response to a banditry incident reported in Ntangilia area in Tigania East, Meru County.

According to the National Police Service, (NPS) the operation was launched immediately after the theft was reported, with officers setting up ambushes along suspected escape routes.
“A report of livestock stolen from the Ntangilia area was received, prompting the immediate deployment of a joint security team. The team established strategic ambushes along known criminal escape routes,” NPS said in a statement.
The suspects were later intercepted in the Chumvi area, where a gunfire exchange ensued before the officers regained control and recovered the livestock.
“A fierce exchange of fire ensued, but the security team overpowered the bandits and recovered all the livestock, which were handed over to the owner at Gambela Centre after positive identification,” the service stated.
The animals were later handed over to the rightful owner at Gambela Centre after identification.
Security officials say the incident highlights the continued use of coordinated operations to counter livestock theft and banditry in the region, with intensified patrols now underway to track down the suspects and enhance public safety.
