Wiper leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, has demanded the immediate resignation of Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi following a recent fuel price hike that has triggered a nationwide transport paralysis.

In a strongly worded public statement issued on Monday May 18, Musyoka described the fuel price increases as a “reckless” decision by the President Ruto regime, accusing it of prioritising its interests over the welfare of Kenyans.
On May 14, 2026, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a rise in diesel prices by Ksh 46.29 per litre and super petrol by Ksh 16.65 per litre.
Musyoka said the move was made without consultation and has had a devastating impact on Kenyan families already struggling with the high cost of living.
“Hundreds of thousands of our fellow Kenyans; workers, students, traders, and mothers, are stranded across the length and breadth of this nation,” the statement read.”
“This is not a natural disaster. This is the calculated and foreseeable consequence of a William Samoei Ruto regime.”
Musyoka defended the ongoing strike by the Transport Sector Alliance, describing it as a “legitimate response to illegitimate policy.” He blamed the government for making it economically impossible for transport operators to serve the public.
The Wiper leader outlined key demands to the Ruto regime including the reversing of the fuel price hike and the resignation of Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi.
He also urged President Ruto to direct his administration to open genuine and immediate dialogue with the Transport Sector Alliance.
He also stated that the government must present a credible and transparent framework for stabilising fuel prices that protects ordinary Kenyans.
Musyoka warned of severe economic consequences, including disrupted supply chains, rising food prices, and commerce grinding to a halt across major routes from “Mombasa to Kisumu, Eldoret to Naivasha, Taveta to Garissa, and Tseikuru to Sugoi.”
He further reaffirmed the United Alternative Government’s solidarity with Kenyans, stating that the Ruto regime has abandoned the people but opposition leaders have not.
