A former employee of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has been charged before the Kakamega Anti-Corruption Court over allegations of forging academic certificates to secure employment at the institution.

Investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) established that Ms. Florah Lipesa Koloba, allegedly forged a Diploma in Community Health Nursing from the Kenya Medical Training College, a Nursing Certificate from the Nursing Council, and a KCSE certificate from Matende Secondary School, which she is said to have used to obtain employment at MMUST.
The EACC said the case file was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved the prosecution.
Ms. Koloba was arrested and arraigned before Chief Magistrate Makori at the Kakamega Law Courts on May 12, 2026, where she faced charges including forgery, uttering a false document, deceiving a principal, and fraudulent acquisition of public property amounting to KSh7.58 million, allegedly earned in salaries during her employment.
She denied all charges and was released on a cash bail of KSh500,000 or a bond of KSh1 million with a surety of the same amount.
The court directed that the case be mentioned on May 28, 2026, for pre-trial directions and scheduling of hearing.
The EACC said it will also pursue civil proceedings to recover salaries and benefits allegedly obtained through fraudulent academic credentials, reiterating its commitment to combating corruption and safeguarding integrity in the public service.
