The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that more than 2.6 million new voters were registered during the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, which ran from March 30 to April 28.

Speaking on Thursday during a press briefing, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethokon announced that the commission registered a total of 2,612,725 new voters by the close of the exercise on April 28, 2026, describing it as a major milestone.
“Within the window of 30 days of the mass voter registration, we managed to capture and register 2,345,476 new voters. This is a major milestone for us, and we would like to thank every Kenyan who has supported this exercise,” said IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon.
Ethekon highlighted that more than 500,000 new voters were registered on average each week.
He also noted that 267, 249 voters were registered through continuous voter registration at constituency offices from September 29, 2025.
“Since that time up to April 28, 2026, when we closed the enhanced voter registration exercise. We wish to report to the nation, these are the new voters who have joined our roll. This comprises 267,249 new voters whom we registered since September 29, 2025, under the continuous voter registration in the constituency offices,” he said.
The 30-day exercise fell short of the IEBC’s target of 2.5 million registrations, but the commission nonetheless termed it a success, citing improvements compared to past large-scale registration initiatives.
The nationwide exercise, which ran from September 29, 2025, to April 28, 2026, was conducted across 30,657 registration centres, with 12,420 officials deployed countrywide.
Ethekon stated that the Commission deployed 5,390 KIEMS kits across 290 constituencies, 1,450 wards, and 57 Huduma Centres, while also partnering with universities, colleges, and Anniversary Towers to enhance voter registration efforts.
He added that the 2026 ECVR exercise recorded improved performance compared to previous mass voter registration drives.
