Junet Mohamed warns Gachagua against interfering in ODM affairs

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has told former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to keep off ODM business, firing back at recent remarks on the party’s 2027 election strategy.

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed

Speaking on Sunday during a fundraiser for the Muslim Cultural and Resource Centre in Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County, Junet dismissed Gachagua’s comments on ODM’s internal plans.

“I recently heard someone called Rigathi saying ODM has started complaining. We do not want your advice, you are the worst person to advise ODM,” Junet said.

The clash comes amid debate over zoning arrangements ahead of the 2027 General Election.

On April 10, while attending a burial in Laikipia County, Gachagua said zoning should be part of any pre-election deal between ODM and UDA.

“ODM must be very clear that before they proceed on any agreement, they must agree on zoning. Areas predominantly dominated by ODM must be left to ODM,” he said.

Junet rejected the suggestion and defended ODM’s right to set its own course.

He said the party has no regrets about working within the broad-based government and will keep charting its political direction.

“ODM has its own position. We cannot allow outsiders to dictate how we run our politics,” he said.

The MP also questioned Gachagua’s standing to comment on ODM strategy, pointing to his time in office.

“You have served only one term in Parliament and a short stint as Deputy President. What experience do you have to advise a party that has existed for over 20 years?” he added.

Junet maintained that ODM’s zoning plan would hold, warning against interference in what he called the party’s strongholds.

The exchange underscores widening rifts over how coalitions will manage candidate selection in shared regions as 2027 approaches.
