The National Police Service (NPS) Taekwondo team delivered an impressive performance at the recently concluded Mombasa County Taekwondo Chairman’s Cup Championship, clinching five gold medals and securing second place overall in the highly competitive tournament.

The championship, staged at the iconic Aga Khan Hall in Mombasa, brought together athletes from more than 19 teams representing different regions and disciplined services across the country.

The event was sanctioned by the Kenya Taekwondo Federation, which oversees the growth and regulation of the sport nationwide.

Demonstrating exceptional discipline, endurance, and tactical precision, the NPS martial artists amassed a total of eight medals; five gold, one silver, and two bronze.

Gold medal honours were claimed by Ann Jumwa, Sophy Clay, Stacy Dock, Jully Musangi, and Venus Joshua, each excelling in their respective weight categories.

The four-day competition commenced on April 3 with a specialised two-day World Taekwondo seminar aimed at enhancing athletes’ technical skills before culminating in the main championship bouts. Such seminars are a common feature of major taekwondo tournaments in Kenya, designed to improve performance standards and promote continuous learning among practitioners.

Despite fierce competition, the NPS team-maintained composure and consistency throughout the tournament, ultimately finishing just behind the Nairobi Regional Taekwondo Club, which claimed the overall title.

Taekwondo, widely recognized for instilling discipline, fitness, and resilience, continues to grow steadily in Kenya through regional tournaments and grassroots development initiatives.

The National Police Service congratulated the team for their outstanding achievement, noting that the performance reflects the Service’s ongoing commitment to excellence in both professional duty and sporting development.
