Six Convicted Over Murder of Former Kabete MP George Muchai

Six individuals have been convicted in connection with the murder of former Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai and three others following a long-running case prosecuted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The convicts, identified as Erick Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani, Stephen Asitiva, Jane Wanjiru and Margaret Njeri, were found guilty on multiple charges related to the killing and associated criminal activities.

According to the prosecution, Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani and Stephen Asitiva were convicted on three counts of robbery with violence.

The court heard that on the nights of February 6 and 7, 2015, the four men carried out violent robberies against Michael Ngatia, Gladys Waithera and Irene Muthoni in separate incidents. During the attacks, the victims were threatened with violence as the accused stole various valuables.

Items stolen during the robberies were estimated to be worth approximately KSh 1.1 million. Among the stolen property were two motor vehicles, a gas cylinder, four mobile phones, a laptop and cash.

In addition to the robbery charges, Munyera, Margaret Njeri and Jane Wanjiru were also convicted for being in possession of a firearm without a valid firearm certificate and for possessing ammunition without proper authorization.

The convictions followed an extensive trial in which the prosecution presented testimony from 36 witnesses. The evidence presented in court linked the accused persons to the crimes and helped establish their involvement.

Former MP George Muchai, his two bodyguards and his driver were murdered in February 2015 in a case that shocked the country and raised concerns about rising criminal activity at the time.

The court is scheduled to deliver sentencing for the six convicted individuals on March 18, 2026. Authorities say the ruling marks a significant step in the pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.
