The government has announced plans to upgrade to Bitumen Standards, the Kyuso-Tseikuru road, which leads to Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s home in Kitui County.

This follows a tender notice issued by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday December 23, 2025, inviting bids from eligible contractors.
According to the tender notice, the project will involve the strengthening of Kandwia-Kyuso road and upgrading to Bitumen Standards of Kyuso-Tseikuru road.
KeNHA also announced that pre-tender site visit will take place on 15th January 2026, at 10:00am at Kandwia shopping center.
“The Authority hereby invites bids from eligible contractors for the following tenders to be funded through the Development Votes. There shall be a mandatory pretender site visit as specified,” KeNHA announced.
“A complete set of tender documents may be obtained by interested tenderers from the Kenya National Highways Authority website: kenha.co.ke or the Public Procurement Information Portal (PPIP),” the Authority added.
Although the government insists the project is part of its broader infrastructure agenda, some Kenyans view it as an extension of the political rivalry between President Ruto and Kalonzo Musyoka, with the latter’s development record in the region coming under renewed scrutiny.
In the recent weeks President Ruto and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka have locked horns in a verbal showdown, with the Head of State accusing him of failing to deliver development to Ukambani despite being in power for over 40 years.
Ruto further slammed Kalonzo for not tarmacking the road to his rural home even though he served as Vice President in Mwai Kibaki’s administration.
“I heard one of them say I’ve been laying roads, he said while in government. He even corrected me, saying he served for 40 years, not 50. My question is, how many years does he need to do a single project? Clearly, these issues are beyond his understanding,” Ruto said.
Adding, “How do you campaign for development when the road to your own home is still dusty?”
In his response, Kalonzo Musyoka bashed Ruto for turning his focus on him instead of leading the country’s development projects.
