The Government has created three new administrative Sub-Regions in Nairobi to enhance proper service delivery to the people.

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made the announcement on Thursday, through a gazette notice dated 12th November 2025.
CS Murkomen stated that the decision follows the promises his Ministry made during the recently concluded Jukwaa la Usalama forums, to reinforce the National Administration to serve the population more efficiently.
“During the recently concluded Jukwaa La Usalama public forums we promised to restructure and reinvigorate the National Administration to better serve the people of Kenya. We are committed to bringing services closer to wananchi through deliberate decentralisation and efficiency enhancement,” CS Murkomen said.
The new sub-regions; Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West Service Delivery Coordination Units, will serve the city’s rising population, which according to Murkomen, is now estimated at more than five million.
Murkomen further stated that the subregions will be administered by officials serving in the rank of County Commissioner.
He promoted and appointed Rose Wanjiru Chege to take charge of Nairobi West Sub Region, Patrick Simiyu Werre to oversee Nairobi East Sub Region and Simon Odhiambo Osumba to head Nairobi North Sub Region. The three will report to the Regional Commissioner, Nairobi Region.
At the same time, the CS also promoted and posted several officers to the rank of County Commissioner.
They include; Joseph Mwangi Wamuti (Tana River), Linda Adhiambo Okola (Taita Taveta), David Ntawuasa Saruni (West Pokot), Michael K. Yator (Kajiado), Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru (Kericho) and Peter Mwangi Maina (Vihiga).
Murkomen also announced the transfer of serving County commissioners to various new stations, as part of addressing the various security and service delivery concerns raised by Kenyans during Jukwaa La Usalama public forums.
