Ex-President and Jubilee Party Leader Uhuru Kenyatta has slammed the Kenya Kwanza administration for undoing some of the accomplishments realized during his tenure.
Speaking on Friday during the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) held in Nairobi, the former president highlighted the Linda Mama initiative, which was launched in 2013 to provide free maternity and new-born care services.
Uhuru accused the Ruto led government for replacing it by what he described as new, untried and untested schemes.
He noted that Kenyans are subjected to untold suffering as they wait for the new government initiatives to work. He called on Kenyans to be careful with their choice of leaders, as the country gears up for the upcoming general elections.
“Today, many of the gains of the past have been eroded. Linda Mama and others have been replaced by new, untried and untested schemes. While we wait for these experiments to work, Kenyans suffer and our progress is dragged,” Uhuru said.
“As we continue to dwell in rhetoric rather than progress, we repeat the mistakes of the past. Some of the truths we spoke of and some of the myths have become the nightmares that many are living with,” he added.
Further, Uhuru warned against the use of security agencies by the government to silence its critics.
“This machine that we built was not meant to face the citizens. However, this system was never meant to be used against our own citizens. It was not supposed to be a source of fear and conflict with our citizens. Ilikuwa ya kulinda wananchi sio kuumiza,” he opined.
However, the former head of state’s statement ignited criticism from a section of leaders allied to President Ruto.
Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei expressed his disappointment with Uhuru’s remarks, accusing him of plunging the country into a mess which the current administration is working tirelessly to clean up.
“As a former member of the Jubilee Party am disappointed by remarks by party leader Uhuru Kenyatta by pontificating himself yet he left a mess of a country that we are trying to fix,” Cherargei wrote on X.
