Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, citing discontent with the party’s ideologies.
In a letter directed to UDA’s Secretary General Hassan Omar, Gachagua stated that his decision was based on the fact that the reigning party had diverted from addressing Kenyans’ concerns and instead turned into a political formation unsuitable for the country’s progress.
Gachagua, who was impeached last year following continued wrangles with his then boss, President William Ruto, added that UDA has been at the forefront of undermining Kenya “economically, socially, and politically.”
“By a copy of this letter, you are notified that I have officially resigned from the UDA Party with immediate effect,” Gachagua’s resignation letter read.
“I have made this decision in knowledge of the ideals of the party we believed in, and so did millions of Kenyans, but it has now turned out to be the most dangerous political moment for the people and the Republic of Kenya, in a retrogressive philosophy of an unfit class to govern our nation. The party has exhausted and wasted a Kenyan moment to take off economically, socially, and politically,” he claimed.
He rebuked President Ruto for blatantly lying to Kenyans during the launch of Kenya Kwanza’s manifesto ahead of the 2022 general elections, through his assertions that his leadership would champion political inclusion and economic empowerment for all Kenyans. The former DP maintained that no nation can be built on a litany of lies.
Furthering his attacks, Gachagua stated that the Kenya Kwanza administration had failed to achieve the bottom-up agenda, which was the pillar of its formation.
“We promised to lift Kenyans from the bottom of the economic pyramid; this was an inclusive economic model that millions of Kenyans believed in. We signed economic charters with all the counties and various professional bodies. It is, however, disturbing that the Kenya Kwanza rogue administration is still searching for these charters in their dusty shelves,” said Gachagua.
The former deputy president had earlier affirmed his intention of forming a new party with the aim of uniting voters from the Mt. Kenya region and making UDA less popular in the vote-rich region.
