Winnie Odinga

Speaking on Friday October 17, during the State Funeral at Nyayo Stadium, Winnie asserted that she was with the former premier, when he breathed his last, dismissing speculations surrounding the cause of his death.

“I was with him in India when he took his last breath. He died in my arms, but he did not die as people have been saying on social media,” Winnie said, adding that Raila was in good health on the day he died.

“Every day he was waking up and walking one round, then two rounds the next day. That morning, he pushed to five rounds.”

She mentioned that Odinga died strong with dignity and pride, urging Kenyans to emulate and walk in his footsteps, “You all must also walk with your heads held high, and walk strong and proud that he left as a gentleman.”

Winnie hailed her father as a hero who stood firmly by his family and selflessly served the nation. She recalled the various names Kenyans had given the former Prime Minister, noting that to their family, he was simply “Dad.”

“I don’t know who I will miss more, my dad or my superhero. To the world, you were known by many names: Aluo, Jaramogi’s son, Tinga, Agwambo, Nyundo, Jakom, Baba Fidel, but in the end, they called you Baba. To me, you were simply Dad,” she said.
