Two armed suspects arrested, Ak-47 rifle recovered in major security operation in Mombasa.

Security agencies in the Coast region have recorded a major breakthrough following the arrest of two armed and dangerous suspects and the recovery of a loaded AK-47 rifle in an intelligence-led operation in Mombasa.

Carried out by a joint team of detectives drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and the Operations Directorate, the operation resulted in the arrest of a 22-year old, Collins Ochieng, well known as Voke, and Timothy Omondi Mgowe, 23, at an apartment in the Bamburi Fisheries area.

The two suspects are believed to be behind a robbery and abduction incident that occurred on 17, 2026, in Kisauni Sub-County.

According to the investigators, the suspects, together with accomplices who remain at large, accosted a businessman, robbed him of a substantial amount of money and other valuables, and then later on abandoned him in the Mombasa Cement area.

Following the incident, the detectives launched intensive investigations, working round the clock, determined to track the culprits and bring them to book and restore the sanity within the Coast region.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers stormed the targeted residence, leading to the swift arrest of the suspects.

During the operation, officers recovered one AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine containing four rounds of ammunition, and ten assorted mobile phones were believed to have been stolen from victims during previous criminal activities.

The police believe that the firearm may have been used in multiple robberies within Mombasa and its surroundings. Ballistic analysis and forensic examinations are still going on to establish its linkage to other reported crimes.

The suspects are currently undergoing processing and are expected to be presented in court as investigations continue to identify and apprehend their accomplices.

Security agencies have emphasized on their commitment to intensify operations across the Coast region, in order to dismantle criminal gangs and restore public safety.

The local residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing timely and credible information that may help in the ongoing investigations.
