Three suspects arrested in connection with brutal murder of 22-year-old woman in Kirinyaga East

Detectives in Kirinyaga East have arrested three men linked to the murder of Jackline Waruguru Kathuri, whose lifeless body was discovered in Ninga-ini village, Kirinyaga East Sub-County on the 22nd of November 2025.

The discovery of the incident came to light following a distress call which was made at Kiamutugu Police Station, reporting about a lifeless body lying in the area.

Upon reaching at the scene, police officers discovered that the body had severe burn wounds, a missing right upper arm and breast, and visible head injuries. The body was later moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination and preservation.

The investigations show that the deceased had left home on 16th November 2025 and never returned. The reports indicate that she was gang-raped, brutally assaulted and dragged to a nearby thicket where she was left to die.

Detective officers, through forensic leads swiftly launched a manhunt to hold the culprits accountable, leading to the arrest of the main suspect Collins Muchira Ngege. Upon interrogation, Ngege led the officers to the other alleged accomplices namely, John Brian Kimotho Kamau and Stephen Muchiri Karani.

The three are currently held in custody undergoing processing pending their arraignment.

The incident comes months after another attack in Murang’a County where a 53-year-old woman was killed and her body transported in a bag to the Kangari Police Station. The post-mortem results revealed that she was murdered by strangulation, breaking her trachea.

Following this report, the police arrested four suspects linked to the murder of the mother of six, including her husband, two of her sons and the taxi driver who transported the body. The deceased, Hannah Wanjiku Kiiru had allegedly left her marriage after encountering gender-based violence.

Following the high rise of gender-based violence cases across the country, the human rights organizations have raised an alarm, asking the concerned authorities to take action and ensure that justice is served to all the victims.
