The incident which has sparked public outrage and condemnation, ensued on Saturday, September 20, during a CAF Champions League match between Mogadishu FC and Kenya Police FC, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim condemned the acts, describing them as deeply regrettable.

“Let me state clearly that we regret and firmly condemn the actions of a few individuals whose behaviour has overshadowed the remarkable performances of both teams,” Abdulle stated.

He added: “Such incidents do not reflect the values of respect, friendship, and shared sovereignty that guide the relationship between the two countries.”

His statement comes at a time when Kenyans have been mounting pressure on government authorities to take action against the unruly fan in the viral video.

Speaking during the 45th Jukwaa la Usalama Forum in Wajir County, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, sent a stern warning to anyone dishonouring symbols of national unity, adding that it was punishable by law.

He urged the Inspector General of Police to take action and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

“Many people don’t know that there is the National Flag, Emblems and Names Act. I urge the Inspector General of Police to ensure the law takes its course,” Murkomen said.

“When you joke with our symbols of national unity and pride, you have overstayed your welcome,” he warned.

IG Douglas Kanja confirmed that the police had launched an investigation into the matter.
