Unconfirmed number of people have been trapped after a building collapsed in the Highrise area of Kibera in Nairobi on Wednesday afternoon.

The unfortunate incident has been announced by the Kenya Red Cross, which says it is still impossible to determine the exact number of people trapped.
Kenya Red Cross has however noted that it has dispatched emergency response teams to conduct search and rescue operations.
“A building collapse has been reported in the Highrise area of Kibera. Emergency response teams are currently on site conducting search and rescue operations. An unconfirmed number of individuals are feared trapped beneath the debris,” Kenya Red Cross said in a statement.
The incident comes amid a series of building collapse cases reported across Nairobi this year.
In March 16, 2026, at least four people died after a building collapsed at Blue Estate in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, during an attempted demolition along the Nairobi River riparian corridor.
One person also died and several sustained injuries after a 22-storey building under construction partially collapsed on School Lane in Westlands, Nairobi, on March 18, 2026.
In January this year, a 16-storey building under construction collapsed in Nairobi’s South C area, killing two people.
