FIFA has officially lifted financial sanction, that had resulted in the suspension of development funding to Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

In a formal letter addressed to the FKF on December 15, 2025, the decision was arrived at following a review by the FIFA Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (GACC). The meeting was held on 8th December 2025.
The Committee led by Chief Member Association Officer, Elkhan Mamadov, announced that the release of development funding under the Forward Programme will resume with immediate effect, following an intensive evaluation of FKF under article 15 of the FIFA Forward Development Programme Regulations.
“In light of the positive steps made by the Football Kenya Federation regarding the implementation of the action plan and the improved results of the 2024 central audit review, we hereby confirm that your case was positively reviewed,” FIFA stated.
Even with the funding reinstated, FIFA has placed FKF under close monitoring, with the federation expected to operate under a monthly reporting mechanism, on the use of the funds, until the next GACC meeting scheduled for March 2026.
FKF President Hussein Mohamed, in a statement posted on X, welcomed the decision, stating that it is a vote of confidence in the federation’s ongoing efforts toward financial reforms.
“This decision by FIFA is a strong vote of confidence in the direction we are taking as a Federation. Step by step, we are fixing Kenyan football by strengthening governance, improving financial management, and restoring credibility at all levels,” Hussein stated.
He noted that the outcome was a result of collective responsibility demonstrated by the FKF leadership and secretariat.
“This outcome has been achieved through hard work, discipline, and collective responsibility by the FKF leadership and secretariat. We remain fully committed to meeting all FIFA requirements and ensuring that these resources are used transparently and solely for the development of football in Kenya,” he added.
Initial FIFA ban was imposed in February 2022, due to government’s interference when the FKF’s elected leadership was dissolved and a caretaker committee installed. The ban was lifted in November 2022, but the development funding remained on hold pending full compliance and audit review.
