President William Ruto has joined millions of Catholics worldwide in mourning the passing of Pope Francis.

In a heartfelt message shared on his socials media platforms, the head of state lauded the Holy Father for his passion and unwavering commitment to spiritual and social well-being of people across the world.

“We join the Catholic Church and the global Christian community in mourning the passing of Pope Francis. This is a big loss to the Catholic faithful and the Christian world. Pope Francis will be remembered for a life dedicated to serving the Lord, the Church, and humanity.”

“He exemplified servant leadership through his humility, his unwavering commitment to inclusivity and justice, and his deep compassion for the poor and the vulnerable,” Ruto wrote on his socials.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula described Pope Francis as a champion for equality among the human race. He mentioned the Pope’s reforms that brought inclusivity in the Church.

“Through his words and actions, he embodied Christ’s teachings of love, mercy, and forgiveness, championing the dignity of every human being, regardless of race, nationality, or status. His leadership brought bold reforms and renewed the Church’s mission of inclusivity, dialogue, and shared responsibility, ” Speaker Wetangula stated.

Senate deputy minority whip, Edwin Sifuna echoed Wetangula’s tribute saying that the Pope stood in solidarity with the outcasts and was sinners’ beacon of hope. “Pope Francis is easily my favorite. A proper “sinner’s” Pope .See, according to Catholic doctrine, marriages like mine under Luhyia customary law are considered “unholy” unions. Sometimes they wont even baptize your kids till you “regularize”. This is the Pope who said it was OK for priests to extend blessings to sinners like me. May he Rest in Peace,” Sifuna said.

According to Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, the 88-year-old Pontiff died on Easter Monday, at his residence in Casa Santa Marta Vatican, where he was recovering following a prolonged illness.
