15 people were confirmed dead and 29 others seriously injured in a horrific crash on Monday night at Malaha Junction, after a long-distance trailer lost control and rammed into several vehicles and pedestrians.
According to the police and witnesses, the trailer was travelling from Kitale towards Webuye when it veered off the road and hit vehicles and motorcycles parked beside the road.
Police said that the crash happened when two motorcycles collided head on. Moments later, the Mercedes Benz trailer reportedly lost control and rammed into members of the public who had gathered at the scene.
Sadly, 10 people were killed on the spot, while many others were injured. The injured were rushed to Webuye Sub-County Hospital for treatment, where four more victims later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to 15.
