Police have apprehended two suspects following coordinated operations that disrupted large-scale drug supply networks in Nairobi and Makueni counties, in a renewed crackdown on narcotics trafficking across the country.

The operations were conducted on February 24, 2026, and were led by officers from the National Police Service (NPS) and targeted major distribution routes believed to be fueling the illegal drug trade in urban and rural areas.
In Nairobi, undercover officers from the Regional Headquarters apprehended a suspect found in possession of 268 rolls of bhang.
The narcotics had been carefully hidden inside a suitcase and are believed to have originated from Busia County, the intended destination being Kitengela. Authorities suspect the consignment was part of a broader supply network supplying drugs within the capital and its surrounding regions.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Makueni County, a multi-agency security team carried out a raid at a store in Kambu area, Mtito Andei, which led to the recovery of 108 kilograms of bhang.
The substantial haul highlights the scale of narcotics operations in the region and the growing concern among security agencies over drug trafficking routes passing through the area.
Both suspects were taken into police custody, with the seized drugs securely held at police stations pending further investigations and arraignment in court.
In a statement, the NPS reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks involved in narcotics and illicit alcohol trade, noting that such activities pose significant threats to public health and safety.
“The National Police Service remains committed to the fight against narcotics and to protecting citizens from the dangers posed by narcotics and the illicit alcohol trade,” the service said.
These arrests come barely a day after authorities announced the capture of seventeen suspects along the Coast region during intensified security operations put in place to restore peace and public safety.
These operations led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, over 35 kilograms of suspected narcotics including bhang, heroin, and cocaine, as well as dozens of mobile phones, SIM cards, and crude weapons.
According to the NPS, the Coast region has recently witnessed a spike in armed robberies, burglary, drug trafficking, and violent land disputes, especially in Kilifi County, prompting increased patrols and surveillance.
“These incidents have disrupted communities and heightened concerns about security,” authorities noted.
Investigations into the latest arrests are still underway, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court as authorities continue with the efforts to dismantle organized drug networks across the country.
