Police officers have arrested a suspected notorious criminal and recovered a homemade firearm and a knife following a dramatic chase through parts of Nairobi.

The suspect, identified by the aliases “Kanyundo” and “Rashid Abdalla,” was apprehended on Tuesday after officers on routine patrol along Lamu Road in the Majengo area spotted him. According to police, the suspect immediately fled upon noticing the officers, triggering a pursuit.
“Yesterday, police officers on patrol duties along Lamu Road in the Majengo area of Nairobi encountered a notorious suspect known by the aliases “Kanyundo” and “Rashid Abdalla”. Upon noticing the officers, the suspect immediately fled, prompting a determined pursuit by the patrol team,” National Police Service said.
The chase continued towards the California area before officers caught up with the suspect at the Madina Mall Roundabout in Eastleigh. A search conducted during the arrest led to the recovery of a homemade firearm and a knife.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is a known criminal figure allegedly linked to a series of serious offences in the Shauri Moyo area.
Police records reportedly connect him to previous incidents involving stabbing and phone snatching, crimes that have contributed to insecurity and concern among local residents.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court to face various charges related to the recovered weapons and other alleged criminal activities.
The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, emphasizing that officers will continue conducting proactive patrols, intelligence-led operations, and targeted interventions aimed at preventing crime and ensuring public safety.
