Leaders of the opposition under the umbrella of the United Opposition Movement have issued a scathing statement condemning what they term as repression, lawlessness, and political persecution currently being witnessed in the country.

Speaking at the Karen Hospital after paying a visit to Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, who is hospitalized after allegedly being abducted, tortured, and later dumped at a coffee plantation in Ruiru constituency, the leaders — led by Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Justin Muturi — criticized the Ruto-led administration for instigating politically motivated violence.
The opposition outfit noted that they have made numerous calls for an end to arbitrary arrests, abductions, gross violations of human rights, and extrajudicial killings, with the Kenya Kwanza government failing to act and instead turning a deaf ear.
“We, the United Opposition, stand before the people of Kenya and the international community, gravely alarmed by the heightened descent of our beloved nation into a state of repression, lawlessness, and political persecution. Despite our persistent calls to end arbitrary arrests, abductions, gross violations of human rights, and extrajudicial killings, Ruto’s administration seems to be on a race to the bottom — to anarchy,” the jointly signed statement read in part.
They also condemned the alleged abduction of MP Koimburi, reiterating that such heinous acts aim to silence leaders opposed to the government.
“The brazen abduction of the Member of Parliament for Juja Constituency, Hon. George Koimburi, who was forcefully taken by unidentified assailants on Sunday, only to be later found tortured and dumped in a coffee plantation, fighting for his life — this horrifying incident is not isolated. It is part of a chilling trend where elected leaders and citizens aligned with the opposition are being systematically targeted to silence dissent.”
Kalonzo Musyoka further called out the National Police Service for denying its involvement in the kidnapping. He dismissed any statements from the police, stating that public trust in them had eroded.
The Wiper Party leader also claimed that the government was sponsoring an abduction squad specifically designed to quash opposition activities in the country.
“There is an abduction squad operating in this country — and we go by what Rigathi Gachagua said last night: that there is a special squad designed to ensure there is no opposition in Kenya. Let Kanja issue whatever statement he wants, but the truth is — who will believe a police officer like Kanja today? The trust is broken. Kenyans are wide awake, and they are very clear: nothing will stop them from sending this regime home,” he said.
