NACADA Arrests Suspect, Seizes Ksh 1 Million Bhang in Kitui County

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized a consignment of bhang valued at Ksh1 million and arrested one suspect during an operation in Kitui County.

The coordinated operation, conducted by NACADA officers from the Nairobi headquarters on Thursday morning, targeted the suspect’s residence.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa said the raid followed weeks of surveillance. He described it as part of ongoing efforts to curb substance abuse and the distribution of illicit drugs, particularly during this period when students are home for holidays.

“Today’s operation demonstrates NACADA’s unwavering commitment to protecting society, especially now that schools are closed and children are at home for the holidays,” Omerikwa said.

“We cannot allow drug peddlers to prey on our youth during this period when they are away from the structured school environment.”

The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to face charges of drug trafficking and possession of narcotics.

Omerikwa further praised members of the public for providing information that helped authorities track suspects and execute operations successfully. He urged citizens to continue reporting illegal drug activities, stressing that community cooperation is vital in the fight against substance abuse.

“The public has remained a dependable ally in this war against alcohol and drug use across the country. I call on citizens to stay vigilant and continue volunteering information that will lead to protecting our environment and communities from the harms caused by drug use,” he added.
