Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has again hit out at President Ruto over his recent remarks on the forced disappearances witnessed at the height of the Gen Z protests.

During a joint media address on Monday with Finland’s President, Alexander Stubb, who is on a state visit, President Ruto admitted that there were indeed abductions and that all the abductees had been returned to their families. He reiterated that his administration was working tirelessly to curb any recurrence.
“There is an accountability mechanism to ensure such situations are addressed,” said President Ruto. “I undertook to the country that, as a democracy, Kenya will not go back to the dark days when citizens disappeared and their bodies were found in all manner of places. That will not happen under my administration.”
“All the people who disappeared or were abducted have been brought back to their homes. I have given clarity that nothing of that nature will happen again,” he emphasized.
In a statement shared on his X handle, Muturi stated that the President had just confirmed what he had been complaining about all along.
“He just confirmed what I’ve been saying all along!” he posted on X.
He added, “What was so difficult about simply acknowledging that these were state-sponsored killings and abductions, and putting a stop to them sooner?”
Prior to his dismissal from the Cabinet, the former CS often alleged that the Head of State was aware of the kidnappings and at some point even claimed they were sponsored by the government.
Muturi’s rage with the Kenya Kwanza government was catalyzed after his son, Leslie Muturi, was abducted. In a shocking revelation, Muturi linked National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers to the abduction, adding that he was later released following the intervention of President Ruto.
“Standing outside the pavilion, I heard the President ask Haji if he was holding my son. Noordin confirmed that indeed he was holding my son, and the President instructed him to release Leslie immediately. Noordin responded that Leslie would be released within an hour,” CS Muturi said on January 14, 2025, while recording his statement to the DCI.
