Advocate Levi Munyeri, has challenged Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo to resign, following her decision to serve in President Ruto’s Panel of Experts, appointed to oversee the compensation of protests victims.

In a statement released on Friday, Munyeri asserted that the panel was constituted unconstitutionally. Munyeri argued that Faith Odhiambo had violated LSK’s statutes by accepting to act as the Panel’s co-chair which he says is anchored on unconstitutionality.
“It is a personal decision for Faith Odhiambo to serve Ruto in an unconstitutional Panel of Experts. However, she must resign as the President of LSK, failure to which we will file an urgent motion to eject her as LSK President,” he said.
He stated that the panel duplicated the functions of the Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) whose functions include “receiving and investigating complaints about alleged abuses of Human Rights and take steps to secure appropriate redress.”
Munyeri further referred to an instance in July 2024 where Odhiambo declined President Ruto’s appointment to serve as a member of a taskforce that would audit the country’s public debt. He added that at the time, the LSK president mentioned that her appointment was unlawful, since the mandate to conduct a public audit rested with the Office of the Auditor General.
“In this case, you should have drawn a similar conclusion that the mandate to compensate victims of state-sponsored violence rests with the KNCHR,” he argued.
Levi Munyeri’s statement comes following a public uproar that erupted among a section of Kenyans who accused her of betraying the course for pursuing justice for victims of Human Rights abuse.
However, in her defense, Faith Odhiambo dismissed the claims that she had backstabbed Kenyans by accepting the role. She assured that no bloodshed would occur again during protests.
“The Panel of Experts that I join today bears both the duty and opportunity to spearhead a revolutionary shift in victim reparations,” she said. “Never again shall Kenyans be killed by trigger-hungry officers for exercising their constitutional rights on the streets,” she stated.
