A section of Kenyan leaders has come out to strongly condemn the killing of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, urging the security agencies to expedite probe and bring those responsible to justice.

Kyalo Mbobu, who at some time acted as the Chairperson of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), was shot in his car on Tuesday, as he drove home along Magadi Road in Nairobi. Police and witnesses say his killers were riding in a motorcycle and fled off after carrying out the crime.
Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi in a statement shared on his socials on Tuesday, September 10, appealed to the police to move with speed and unearth the reason behind the heinous act.
“The cold-blooded killing of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu this evening, as he drove home from work, has left us all devastated and in deep shock,” Kingi wrote.
“As the country comes to terms with this chilling incident, we expect the police to carry out speedy and thorough investigations to unearth the reason and culprits behind this heinous crime and ensure justice is served,” he added.
Kingi described the slain lawyer as a distinguished advocate who dedicated his service to the public. He asserted that Mbobu was a mentor to many young lawyers, having taught at the Parklands Campus of the University of Nairobi.
“Wakili Kyalo Mbobu was a distinguished advocate of the High Court of Kenya, an outstanding law scholar and a dedicated public servant, having at one time served as Chairperson of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal. I was honored to be one of his students at the Parklands Campus of the University of Nairobi, where we benefited from his intellectual mentorship.
Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo also raised concern over the increased cases of targeted assassinations in the country. She noted that Mbobu’s murder follows a similar instance where former Kasipul lawmaker, Charles Ong’ondo Were was gunned down moments after leaving parliament buildings.
“The assassination of prominent lawyer Kyalo Mbobu is shocking. This follows soon after a similar assassination of a Member of Parliament. What is happening to humanity? Why do some people find it easy to kill a fellow human being?” Millie Odhiambo stated.
She called for quick investigations in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.
