Kuria urges police to show same restraint toward Kenyan youth as Diani officers did with Dutch National

Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has urged the police to exercise restraint while handling Kenyan youth, just as Diani officers did after being provoked by a Dutch national.

Former Trade CS Moses Kuria

Through a statement posted on his X platform, the former CS lauded the police officers for remaining calm despite facing verbal abuse.

Kuria noted that the self-control shown by officers at the station where the Dutchman was detained demonstrates that they are equally capable of showing mercy to the youth.

“I am really impressed with the restraint and patience by our police officers in Diani in the face of extreme provocation by that Dutch bigot. Kumbe we can do it?” Kuria wrote.

“Now my good friends let’s extend the same magnanimity to our Kenyan youth,” he added.

In a video that has gone viral, Elwin Ter Horst was seen spitting and hurling insults at police officers stationed at Diani Police Post.

Horst had been arrested for causing a disturbance and assaulting his girlfriend at Boma Banda Cottage.

He later issued an apology explaining that he suffers from a medical condition and was experiencing serious discomfort at the time of the confrontation.

“Apologies, I have psychosis, and I need my medicine. I did not have water and food for a long time. People of Kenya, my name is Mufasa,” Horst pleaded while being escorted to a police car.

“I call on your help, people. I want to stay here. I want to live in this country, invest in this country. I want to do business here and help the people of Kenya. My apologies that I was shouting,” he said.
