Kakamega County Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale has bashed President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga for intervening and saving Governor Johnson Sakaja from an impending impeachment motion by Members of the Nairobi County Assembly.

In a statement posted on his socials on Friday, Khalwale accused Ruto and Raila for blocking Nairobi MCAs from performing their oversight role as depicted in the constitution. He added that the interference from the two leaders would hinder the developmental growth of the city.
The Kakamega Senator also launched offensive on the broad based government, saying it does not stand for good governance and constitutionalism.
“The impunity displayed by President Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Odinga in shielding Sakaja Johnson from normal constitutional oversight by Nairobi MCAsis testament that the so called broad based government has nothing to do with good governance and constitutionalism in general,” Khalwale’s statement read.
Khalwale has joined a section of Kenyan leaders who came out to condemn the suspension of the impeachment process. Earlier, Kisumu County Women Representative Ruth Odinga castigated the move to prevent the MCAs from continuing with the impeachment process.
She maintained that the county lawmakers should have been allowed to initiate the ouster process if they felt unpleased by the governor’s performance.
“To stop the process when there are already grievances, I feel disappointed in what Nairobi MCAs have done; they should have gone through the process,” Ruth stated.
On Tuesday 2, September 2025, Raila Odinga convened a meeting with MCAs aligned to ODM at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, and persuaded them to halt the impeachment proceedings. The meeting was also attended by Governor Sakaja, who reportedly committed to improving his working relationship with the County Assembly.
