ODM youth member Kasmuel McOure has come out strongly in defence of Dr. Oburu Oginga, warning that attempts to undermine his leadership are seen as blatant attack on the party’s foundation and the legacy of the late Raila Odinga.

In a hard-hitting online post, Kasmuel McOure dismissed what he described as a “well-funded campaign” by a new faction of legislators and political influencers seeking to alter the Orange party’s direction and questioning Oburu’s position.
“An attack on Dr. Oburu Oginga’s leadership of the ODM is an attack on Baba’s judgement and the party structures he carefully built over the years,” said McOure underscoring that every leadership transition decision by Raila Odinga culminated in Oburu’s confirmation as party leader.
According to Kasmuel, Political strategist of the party would not allow internal saboteurs to rewrite ODM’s history or delegitimise its leadership.
“We shall recognise no other centre of authority in this party,” McOure said.
“No amount of money, bullying or cleverly packaged calls for ‘reform’ will move us from defending our leader,” he added.
He accused the emerging faction of attempting to “manufacture an ODM narrative” aimed at erasing Dr. Oburu’s influence, despite the Siaya Senator’s role in stabilising the party during moments of deep uncertainty.
“Let it not be forgotten that it is his wisdom that has preserved some of these very people within ODM,” Kasmuel added.
“When others were plotting their own paths or issuing ultimatums, it was Dr. Oburu who steadied the Chungwa ship and kept the movement intact,” he echoed.
The statement signals growing tensions within ODM as internal realignments continue ahead of national political shifts, setting the stage for what could become a defining contest over the party’s future direction.
Dr. Oburu Oginga was formally appointed as ODM’s party leader on Thursday November 13, by the National Governing Council (NGC) elevating him from an interim capacity.
