The Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) has raised concern over the ongoing industrial action by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), including Air Traffic Control (ATC), which has resulted in operational disruptions at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

In a statement issued on Tuesday February 17, 2026, the Pilots Association stated that the strike has caused flight delays, diversions and cancellations, thus inconveniencing passengers and stakeholders within the aviation sector.
Despite the disruptions, the pilots’ association stressed that aviation safety is paramount. “Aviation safety is non-negotiable,” the association stated, insisting on the strict adherence to Flight Duty Period (FDP) limitations and mandatory reset requirements.
The association say the go-slow has affected crew scheduling and rest, thereby increasing fatigue risk. KALPA added that the strike could compromise flight safety.
“These regulatory safeguards exist to mitigate fatigue and ensure that flight operations are conducted within internationally accepted safety parameters. Under no circumstances should operational pressures be allowed to compromise these limits,” the union stated, warning that operational pressures should not be allowed to compromise safety limits under any circumstances.
The association further acknowledged the ongoing challenges affecting the aviation sector and urged that the issues be resolved through constructive dialogue.
“While we acknowledge the challenges currently facing the sector, we reiterate that labour matters are best resolved through constructive, good-faith dialogue,” they added.
According to KALPA, meaningful engagement among all parties is essential to address outstanding issues and secure sustainable solutions that are beneficial to the industry and the travelling public.
