IEBC Launches Month-Long Voter Registration Exercise

Independent Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the rollout of an Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise set to begin on Monday, March 30, 2026, in a move aimed at increasing the number of registered voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The one month exercise will run until April 28 and will be conducted daily across multiple locations nationwide.

According to the commission, registration centers will include County Assembly Wards, universities and colleges, Huduma Centres, IEBC constituency offices, and the Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.

In a statement, the commission said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen democratic participation by making voter registration more accessible and inclusive.

“It will be conducted in multiple locations to make voter registration more accessible and convenient for all eligible Kenyans,” IEBC stated.

However, the electoral body clarified that the exercise will not take place in areas where by-elections are scheduled or where election petitions are still ongoing.

“ECVR shall not be undertaken in electoral areas with scheduled by-elections or ongoing election petitions,” the commission added.

The announcement comes at a time when there is growing public interest in civic participation, particularly among young people.

A noticeable surge in political awareness has been driven by a youth-led movement popularised by the phrase “niko kadi,” which has gained traction on social media platforms and in everyday conversations.

The commission has encouraged all eligible citizens who have not yet registered as voters to take advantage of the exercise, emphasizing the importance of participation in shaping the country’s democratic future.
