IEBC announces thousands of job opportunities ahead of nationwide voter registration

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the recruitment of thousands of temporary staff ahead of a nationwide voter registration drive scheduled to run for 30 days at the ward level.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, the Commission said the initiative, dubbed the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR), is designed to complement the ongoing registration services that are currently available at constituency offices.

The main aim of the ward-based approach is to decentralise services and make voter registration more accessible to eligible citizens across the country.

As a way of supporting the exercise, the electoral body is seeking to fill 12,520 short-term positions, including 1,450 Voter Registration Assistants, 10,780 Voter Registration Clerks, and 290 ICT Clerks.Successful applicants will serve only during the ECVR period.

Interested candidates have been advised to review the detailed job requirements on the Commission’s official website and submit their applications online by March 4, 2026.

IEBC however, cautioned that late submissions will not be accepted and emphasized that the recruitment process will be conducted transparently and fairly.

Erastus Ethekon, IEBC Chairperson, said that the exercise will allow eligible citizens to register as voters, update their personal details, transfer their registration, or verify their registration status.

“All eligible Kenyans who have attained the age of 18 years and possess a valid national ID or Kenyan passport may register as voters,” Ethekon noted.

He also added that the registration campaign aims at significantly expanding the voter roll, which currently stands at 22.1 million.

“Our projection is not based on census data… but on records from the National Registration Bureau,” Ethekon said, noting that the Commission targets to register an additional 6.3 million voters.

To facilitate the process, the IEBC has allocated Sh8 billion for the exercise, with other additional funds for voter education, replacement of KIEMS kits, and maintenance of registration systems.

The enhanced registration drive forms part of the Commission’s constitutional mandate under Article 88, which requires continuous voter registration at all 290 constituency offices across the country.

According to the Commission, the initiative will strengthen public participation in future electoral processes.
