Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has declared some parts of Trans Mara South and Trans Mara West in Narok County as ‘Security Disturbed and Dangerous.’

Through a gazette notice dated 19th December 2025, CS Murkomen stated that the declaration is to allow deployment of more decisive security interventions and de-escalation of the tensions between the conflicting communities.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 106 (1) of the National Police Service Act, 2011, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in consultation with the National Security Council, has made a declaration on 19th December, 2025 declaring parts of Narok County as security disturbed and dangerous,” the gazette notice read.
According to CS Murkomen, the pronouncement is set to last for 30 days, with security operations set to be scaled up and peace-building interventions rolled out in earnest.
Murkomen listed Kilgoris, Ang’ata Barrikoi, Lolgorian town, Mogondo, Keyian, Kirindon, Olderkesi, Nkararo, and Kapsasian as security disturbed areas in Narok.
Other areas considered insecure as per the gazette notice include, Kakemer, Ntimaru, Masurura, Kapsarok, Mogor, Nairagie Enkare, Maji Moto, and Naisoya.
The Interior CS further noted that a curfew is already in-force in all the affected regions, with security personnel engaging local leaders to address the root causes of the conflict.
“A dawn-to-dusk curfew is already in force, and security presence in the affected areas has been significantly enhanced. Calm is gradually returning, even as we continue engaging local leaders and security stakeholders to address the root causes of the conflict,” Murkomen said.
He added that calm is gradually returning in the area as security agencies continue to monitor the situation to prevent a resurgence.
“The Government remains committed to ensuring that the communities, which have for a long time lived together in peace and harmony, bring an end to the current animosities and fully embrace peaceful coexistence,” he added.
In the recent outbreak of violence in Ang’ata Barikoi, Transmara, dozens of homes were set ablaze and several people injured.
Reports indicate that more than 30 houses have been torched, and multiple residents wounded in the renewed clashes. This violence follows earlier confrontations in the area that had already claimed lives.
