Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives in Nyali, Mombasa County have arrested a woman accused of planning a robbery against her British boyfriend, whom she allegedly lured into her apartment, under the pretense of a romantic date.

The suspect, Samira Mumbi Kiarie, popularly known as Samira, is said to have been in an online relationship with the Briton for a couple of months. According to the police report, Samira had been charming the man with promises of everlasting love, and convincing him to travel to Nyali.
However, things went south and what was expected to be a “dream date” turned into a nightmare barely minutes after the arrival of the Briton.
Two men stormed in, one claiming to be Samira’s enraged husband and the other pulling off a fake police identification card.
The posed husband accused the Briton of wrecking his home by having an affair with his wife while the fake police officer threatened to have him arrested for allegedly engaging in an illegitimate relationship. Engulfed by fear and confusion, the foreigner was forced to transfer a sum of Ksh 800,000 to the mobile numbers provided by the two.
As soon as the cash was sent, the three escorted the Briton calmly out before disappearing into the humid night.
The detectives were prompted by the report and proceeded swiftly to launch a manhunt. The officers, through forensic intelligence and digital tracking successfully arrested Samira and one of her accomplices, Paul Webster Mangeni, popularly known as Paulo.
Police further revealed that the duo are part of a larger criminal syndicate that lures foreigners through dating sites. They reportedly set up fake profiles in the platforms, bait victims into Airbnbs and stage similar robberies.
Both suspects, Samira and Paulo are currently in police custody being processed for arraignment. Meanwhile, the detectives have intensified the hunt for the other suspect who is yet to be found.
